Jeffrey Schlupp says Celtic striker Daizen Maeda reminds him of Leicester live wire Jamie Vardy.

The on-loan Hoops left-back has been impressed by the Japanese star’s relentless work rate – and incredible goal return.

Maeda made it 30 for the season with a brace in the 3-0 victory over Hearts and Schlupp is adamant he will fire Celtic to the title – just like Vardy did with the Foxes in 2016.

He said: “Daizen is always a threat. We try to get passes in behind to him and he got a couple of goals today which was great for us.

“He is on fire. You can see how hard he works out there. He doesn’t leave anything in the tank and that quality shows.

“He is class and he makes a lot of things easier for us. Sometimes when you are in a bit of trouble you can put a ball in an area and he is going to get on to it.

“It’s always great to know you have somebody like that. We like to pass the ball and having someone with that threat up top is great for us.

“He reminds me of Vards, they have very similar games. Vards is another workhorse who can turn an average ball into a great ball, which is what Daizen does. Hopefully, he can keep it going.”

Meanwhile, Everton boss David Moyes is planning a sensational cross city swoop for Ben Doak, according to a report.

The Liverpool and Scotland star has interest ahead of the summer transfer window and The Sun report that the Toffees are ready to jump into the chase for the former Celtic kid.

Doak, who has been on loan at Middlesbrough this campaign, could join only a handful of players to make the move across the divide if it were to happen.

Bournemouth are also named as a keen party but the same report states that while the Reds may prefere to do business with the Cherries, the players is set to have a major say on his future.

Elsewhere, Viljami Sinisalo took to social media to express his emotions after landing his Celtic league debut.

With Kasper Schmeichel set for a spell on the sidelines, the summer recruit was handed the gloves and kept a clean sheet as the Hoops ran out 3-0 winners against Hearts at Parkhead.

It was a big moment for the Finland international in his Celtic chapter of his career and he took to Instagram to share an image of him walking out the tunnel behind skipper Callum McGregor. He thanked the fans for their support and hailed the team in a short social media update.

He wrote: "Great to be out there. Solid team performance and thank you for the support once again."
