Coventry City boss Frank Lampard in 'hot pursuit' of Premier League teen amid contract issue

Coventry City are in “hot pursuit” of Crystal Palace’s teenager defender Caleb Kporha as the Championship club plan for their summer recruitment.

According to The Sun ’s transfer specialist, Alan Nixon, Frank Lampard wants to sign the 18-year-old right-back who has made four tentative cameo appearances for the Eagles, two in the Premier League and one each in the FA Cup and League Cup, while representing Palace Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

Earlier reports this week say that Kporha is out of contract in the summer and would be available on a free transfer, having failed to agree fresh terms to stay at Palace.

The Sky Blues currently only have one recognised senior right-back in Milan van Ewijk – the one position that lacks direct cover and competition from a specialist full-back, and have been actively looking to add in that department in recent transfer windows.

Kporha, who is an England youth international, started out at non-league Welling United between 2018 and 2021 before making the switch to Selhurst Park and can also play as a wing-back or right-sided midfielder.

The report says: “Crystal Palace are fighting to keep teenage right-back Caleb Kporha with Frank Lampard’s Coventry in hot pursuit.

“Kporha, 18, has made a first-team debut but is yet to sign a new long-term deal. Cov want to offer a quicker route to starts and that may tempt the ex- Welling starlet. The Eagles want him to stay but will have to offer big terms.”
