Eddie Howe gave a passionate speech on the Town Moor stage to bring a close to Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup celebrations.
Around 150,000 took to the streets of Newcastle to watch the open top bus parade through the city before another 150,000 gathered at the Town Moor event with a staggering turnout to show gratitude for the ending of a 70-year trophy drought.
Alan Shearer gave an emotional interview to reflect on Toon lifting the cup and Bruno Guimaraes humorously took to the mic to lead chants during the memorable occasion in Newcastle.
Never really one to try and attract attention, Howe was his usual self and expressed his gratitude when it was his turn to speak.
Ever classy Eddie Howe ended the Town Moor celebrations by calling up lesser-known staff members to have their moments before issuing a message to his players and showing his appreciation for the Geordie faithful.
Newcastle can’t get too caught up in the historic moment with a massively important end to the season still to come. Champions League places are still firmly within reach, and Howe has encouraged his squad to push on in the Premier League:
“I would like to thank the players for their effort, their professionalism, their commitment, but the big thing for us as a group now is we need to go again. We have 10 games to go in the Premier League season and we’ve got to go again.
“Finally, for me it is a big thank you to you. Everyone who’s supported us. Not just this season, but all the seasons before us.
”We are nothing without the support of you, and the one thing we have to do is match your passion on the pitch and that’s what we’ll try to do from this day forward. Thank you very much.”
Eddie Howe understands what Newcastle United means to its supporters and has officially written his name in club legend in his tenure on Tyneside.
Champions League qualification two seasons ago, though an insane accomplishment considering where we were when he took over the season prior, wasn’t enough by itself to cement his place in our eternal history but there can be no question that has been secured now.
