What Bruno Fernandes asked Ineos when offered Man United exit route, he will ask again amid Real Madrid interest

Manchester United chiefs may have to fend off interest in club captain Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Bruno Fernandes has been world-class for Manchester United this season and on occasion he has single-handedly saved the side from defeat.

Fernandes leads United in goals and assists this season despite having found a new position as a central midfielder under Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is a huge admirer of Fernandes and has frequently praised his off-pitch character as much as his on-pitch ability. There is no doubt United’s head coach will want to keep hold of the 30-year-old moving forward.

But that may prove difficult with reports of a mega-money bid being prepared for Bruno Fernandes.

Real Madrid target £90m Bruno Fernandes deal

According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid scouts have been travelling to “virtually every” United match to watch Fernandes in action – home and away.

They claim the Spanish giants are weighing up a £90m bid for Fernandes in the summer. Madrid view Fernandes as a natural successor to 39-year-old Luka Modric.

If Ineos were to consider a £90m bid for Fernandes, it would make it United’s biggest-ever transfer sale, eclipsing the £80m earned when Cristiano Ronaldo made his move to Madrid.

While Amorim will want to keep hold of Fernandes, the report claims Ineos will have to consider a big bid for United’s captain as they continue to try and balance the books at Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has claimed that United were going bust by the end of 2025 before his ruthless cost-cutting methods were implemented. A £90m sale of Fernandes would go a long way in easing the club’s PSR issues.

What Bruno Fernandes asked Ineos during his last exit offer

This isn’t the first time Fernandes will have an offer on the table to leave Old Trafford.

Fernandes turned down an offer from PSG last summer, while there was also interest from the Saudi Pro League. Fabrizio Romano said there was “crazy money” on offer from Saudi to try and attract Fernandes.

Romano added: “But Bruno decided to stay at Man United to respect Man United and to be committed to Man United. He loves the club, he loves the city, he loves the feeling he has with all the people at the club. He wants to win at Manchester United.”

After rejecting the offers and staying put at Old Trafford, Fernandes revealed what he asked in his conversation with club chiefs that led to his decision.

As quoted by The Sun, Fernandes said: “I sat with the club because I had an offer to leave and we talked about the possibility of me leaving the club or staying.

“They said what they wanted from me. I just asked if they saw me as part of the future of the club or not.”

Clearly, Ineos did see Fernandes as a big part of United’s rebuild under Amorim, and if anything he has only become even more important over the past 12 months.
