Newcastle United celebrate Carabao Cup in front of 300,000 Geordies

Newcastle United’s long-awaited return to the summit of English football was marked by an unforgettable day of celebration, as more than 300,000 supporters flooded the city to honor the club’s Carabao Cup triumph on Saturday.

The victory parade followed the Magpies’ 2–1 win over Liverpool at Wembley, the club’s first major domestic trophy since 1955.

Two open-top buses carried Eddie Howe and his players from St James’ Park through the heart of Newcastle before arriving at the Town Moor, with more than 300,000 Geordies gathering and spreading all over town with free tickets to join in the festivities.

The occasion saw the entire city come to a standstill with all sorts of fans lining the streets, climbing lampposts and trees, and standing atop statues for just a glimpse of the players and the gaffer.

“This is really incredible, absolutely mind-blowing,” Howe said from the top of one of the buses. “You’ve got people hanging from lampposts, out of buildings, I hope everyone’s all right.”

After that, already on stage at the Town Moor, Howe shared some more words that hit us right in the middle of our little hearts.

“I didn’t know what to expect today but it’s incredible,” Howe said. “I can’t thank the people of Newcastle enough. It’s very emotional.”

Alan Shearer, in attendance with his son Will, called it one of the best moments of his life.

“We could get used to this,” Shearer said. “Whatever happens from now on, I can go happy.”

Bruno Guimaraes led a chorus of “Hey Geordies,” and Isak offered up his best attempt at a local accent.

“Areet wor kid?”

Newcastle’s wait is over. Their city responded in full. And we all freaking love it.
