Commanders’ Most Costly Trade Gamble Revealed

When the Washington Commanders sent a second-round pick to the New Orleans Saints for an injured but former All-Pro in Marshon Lattimore, the organization was hoping they would get the kind of lockdown corner they had been desperately searching for over the years.

Lattimore's first few months with the team didn't go so well.

While dealing with multiple injuries, Lattimore was picked on heavily and gave up plenty of big plays to some of the top receivers in the sport throughout Washington's run to the NFC Title game.

Entering the second to last year of his original five-year contract, Lattimore is being paid as one of the top cornerbacks in the game. And that is something Bleacher Report writer Brad Gagnon isn't pleased about.

"The 2024 deadline acquisition didn't suddenly get it back in a new setting down the stretch in 2024, and that's unlikely to change as he [Marshon Lattimore] hasn't really been a reliable NFL presence since 2021. The 28-year-old's best days are far behind him, but he will cost Washington $18 million as the eighth-highest-paid cornerback in the league in 2025," Gagnon writes.

After dealing with so many injuries and games where he was ineffective, it's fair to call Lattimore an overpaid player on the Commanders.

He'll have a full offseason under Dan Quinn's watchful eye, but he has plenty left to prove at this point in the offseason.

He may not be around long if he doesn't improve from his first year with the team at this point.
