RB Leipzig have reportedly stolen a march on Manchester United in the race to sign Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham in the summer transfer window.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the box-to-box midfielder in the summer transfer window as the club tries for a second time to sign a Bellingham. While still a promising youngster at Birmingham City, Jobe's elder brother Jude toured Carrington and even spoke to the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson as United tried to put on the charm offensive.

Sadly for United, Borussia Dortmund were able to sell Bellingham Snr. a better vision and the midfielder was able to flourish in the Bundesliga. Now, it appears that Bellingham Jnr. is set to follow in his big brother's footsteps and bypass the Reds in favour of a move to the continent.

According to Sky Sport Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg, the Red Bull club hold a serious interest in signing Bellingham in the summer after his solid campaign for Sunderland in the Championship. When available, the 19-year-old has been an ever-present in the Black Cats' squad and Leipzig feel the midfielder could follow in his brother's footsteps.

It is understood initial talks have been held between the Bundesliga club, who have Jurgen Klopp as their head of football operations, and Sunderland over a move. Currently, the deal is considered to be 'too expensive' for RB Leipzig, but they are not giving up hope on completing the signing.

Bellingham's contract at the Stadium of Light is due to expire in 2028, but it is believed to be likely that the midfielder moves in the summer, especially if Sunderland miss out on promotion to the Premier League. Numerous enquiries into the teenager have already been made so far.
