Pep Guardiola reveals what Man City ‘don’t deserve’ before Leicester City clash

Pep Guardiola insists Manchester City don’t deserve any summer bonuses after a season in which they have failed to live up to their ridiculously high standards.

City, who have won the last four Premier Leagues, are 22 points behind league leaders Liverpool and in a battle to secure a Champions League place.

They face Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-finals today looking to stay in the hunt for silverware having recently been dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid.

Leicester City are City’s next opponents in the Premier League and the Foxes’ need for points is even greater.

Leicester are nine points adrift of safety having lost 13 of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s 16 league matches in charge and need a surprise result or two to reel in 17th-placed Wolves.

A bonus three points would be most welcomed by the Foxes in their match at The Etihad on Wednesday.

As for City, Guardiola isn’t entertaining the idea of bonuses for himself or his players after their worst season under his management.

“We don't deserve it this season," Guardiola told a news conference on Friday. "We don't deserve a bonus this season. The bonus, if you win, I don't know how much. You go there, it's for the club. The managers, the backroom staff, the players we don't deserve. Not even a watch."

City’s season hasn’t been helped by an injury to Ballon d’Or winning midfielder Rodri. The Spaniard hasn’t played since September due to a serious knee injury but Guardiola has suggested he could return before their campaign finishes.

"Listen, it would be nice if he could play tomorrow, but don't do a wrong decision right now, you know and make a step back. He's behaving really well on the pitch already, but competition is completely different. We will see."
