Newcastle United's Alexander Isak on stage with the Carabao Cup

Alexander Isak has described his Carabao Cup final winning strike against Liverpool as the 'biggest of his career'. Already leading through Dan Burn’s first-half header, the Newcastle United forward doubled his side's lead at Wembley when he finished clinically past Caoimhin Kelleher from Jacob Murphy's knockdown.

Liverpool, who were knocked out of the Champions League on penalties by Paris St-Germain in the build-up to the final, would get one back through Federico Chiesa in stoppage time. However, the goal proved to be nothing more than a mere consolation as Newcastle secured their first domestic trophy for 70 years.

The celebrations continued on Saturday when hundreds of thousands of Newcastle supporters took to the streets to celebrate their side’s success. And during an event at the Town Moor, Isak, reflecting on the day at Wembley, said: "It’s impossible to describe this feeling.

“I scored a goal a minute earlier which was offside. My goal was probably the biggest of my career. Obviously, with it getting us the win in the end. It felt amazing.

“The support means the world to us. But it means more to see how much this means to the people. We’re so happy to give the city and the fans."

Isak has become one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League. Liverpool are just one of the clubs who have been linked with a move for the Sweden international.

Reds boss Arne Slot has already revealed that his side are in the market for a number nine this summer, with both Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota being linked with a move away from Anfield. Reflecting on Saturday’s celebrations, Isak, taking to social media, made his feelings clear, writing: “What a memorable day! Love you all!” along with black and white heart emojis.

Asked about his future at St. James' Park during the recent international break, the 25-year-old revealed: "I don't know much, to be honest.

"From within the club and from our side, there are absolutely no discussions. It's just full focus on playing for me. There's not much to say, really. I've commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times.

"It's been written how much I love the city and the club, how well I feel there. I'm not thinking about the future. I just want to perform for Newcastle.

“Now we won the cup, but we want to finish strong and reach the Champions League games. That's where my focus lies.
