‘It’s important we stay humble – we’ve got further FA Cup aspirations’ – Marc Guehi on Crystal Palace’s win at Fulham

Marc Guehi has spelled out that Crystal Palace must “stay humble” after their FA Cup win over Fulham yesterday set up a semi-final tie at Wembley.

The Eagles will face Aston Villa in the last four of the competition after their victory against Preston North End today.

But Guehi was keen to stress that nothing had been achieved despite a memorable afternoon in west London as goals from Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah clinched a 3-0 victory.

“We’re glad,” the England international told Palace TV. “We’re happy. I’m happy for the fans and it is a big moment for the club but I keep telling everyone it’s not the goal. The goal wasn’t to get to Wembley – we’ve got further aspirations for the competition.

“Fulham started really well. Credit to them for starting fast. I praise the team’s resilience and character in that moment – because it can be easy to ship a goal.”

A moment of brilliance from Eze broke the deadlock. The former QPR man drove in from the left wing and swept a superb low finish across Fulham keeper Bernd Leno and into the bottom right corner of the net.

Guehi said: “We know that he can do that I expect it from him every single day – that’s the standards we have for each other. Hopefully he can carry that on.

“Ismaila has been fantastic – like every single other person in the team whether it is Ish, JP, Ebs or Eddie coming off the bench – we have a really strong unit. Eddie is one of those players who doesn’t need many chances to take them. I’m happy for him.

“It’s important we stay humble and keep working.”
