Pittsburgh Steelers could make shocking pick as top quarterback continues draft slide

One month ago, it would have seemed crazy to suggest that Shedeur Sanders might fall to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but now, it seems a lot likelier.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN says that it sure seems many teams are just lukewarm on Sanders rather than loving him, and he could fall all the way to the late part of the first round. If that does happen, it could mean the Steelers would have a chance to draft Sanders.

“From what I’m hearing, the Browns at two, the Giants at three have Shedeur Sanders at least in consideration in the mix, though the Browns seem to be leaning pass rusher Abdul Carter at this point,” Fowler said. “But the tricky part with Sanders is where he falls. I’ve texted with a half dozen high-level personnel people that I trust asking is Shedeur Sander a first-round talent? Do you have a first-round grade on him? Four of those people said no. Two of those people said that he’s more of a mid-to-late first-round pick in their eyes. So we know quarterbacks get pushed up, get overdrafted, but to go in the top three at this point in the minds of many around the league would be pretty rich.”

Sanders’ stock had continued to rise since he transferred to Colorado two years ago, but has experienced a bit of a pitfall in recent months. The son of Deion Sanders, Shedeur has a lot of talent and could go anywhere from 2nd overall to the late 20s.

That means the Steelers could have a sneaky chance to land Sanders if they like him enough. Given no link to him yet from the Steelers, a team notoriously fine with making their draft plans obvious, a move like that seems unlikely to occur.
