Starting as a central striker meant the England international was well-positioned to connect with a Lucas Digne cross and open the scoring just before the hour mark.

The striker then five minutes stepped up to convert a penalty that Morgan Rogers won.

Rashford later acknowledged getting off the mark on social media.

"I am buzzing to finally get my first Villa goals and help the team progress to the semi-finals," Rashford's Instagram caption reads, punctuating the sentence with a red heart emoji.

The player also made mention of the other significance that Sunday has.

He referenced Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, and Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday in Lent.

"Happy Mother's Day (rose emoji) & Eid Mubarak to everybody around the world celebrating (smiling face with open hands emoji) (raising hands emoji)," Rashford added.

Several of his Villa team-mates commented on the post, most with emojis.

Amadou Onana replied with two fire emojis, Digne going one better with three. Ian Maatsen also went for two like Onana but with a clapping hands emoji.

Marco Asensio started his comment like Maatsen with two fire emojis and a clapping hands one but added a pair of football emojis for Rashford's two goals.

Emi Martinez, meanwhile, opted for two smiling faces with heart-eyes emojis, and Matty Cash commented with the top arrow emoji.
