Match Highlights

Chelsea open the scoring thanks to Maika Hamano.

Aggie Beever-Jones doubled the lead.

Shekiera Martinez pulled one back before half-time & leveled the score in stoppage time in the second half.

An early two goal lead

Maika Hamano opens the scoring after Chelsea pressed West Ham United for 15 minutes. Catrina Macario got the cross into the box, where Lawrence headed it toward Hamano, who volleyed it in the back of the net.

Aggie Beever-Jones doubled the lead. Chelsea’s build-up play was excellent, position Charles to pass directly to Macario in the box. She flicked it on to Beever-Jones, who slotted it home.

Good spell from West Ham United

West Ham United had little to offer as Chelsea maintained control throughout the first half. It took the visitors nearly 30 minutes to get a shot on target.

A big blow for West Ham came when Katrina Gorry had to leave the pitch due to an injury, Brynjarsdóttir replaced her. However, the visitors pulled a goal back just before half-time. Ueki delivered to Martinez in the box, her powerful shot flew past Hannah Hampton into the back of the net.

Second Half: Everything to play for

Both sides made changes during the break: Kirsty Smith came on for Anouk Denton. Sonia Bompastor replaced Millie Bright with Lucy Bronze, the captain could definitely use a break. The same goes for Cuthbert, who came off for Kaptein.

Where Chelsea had a quick start in the first half, the second half was much more balanced. The home team were in the lead but a single goal could change that.

Subs to change the game

Twenty minutes in the second half and the score was still 2-1. Bompastor subbed off Hamano and Beever-Jones for Lauren James and Mia Fishel, to hopefully add to their tally.

Rehanne Skinner went for a triple change: Pavi, Nyström and Piubel on for Mengwen, Zadorsky and Ueki. With less than 15 minutes remaining, West Ham needed to score the equaliser.

The subsittues immediately made an impact and pressed the Chelsea defense. Hannah Hampton prevented Hanshaw from scoring the 2-2 by tipping the ball over the cross bar. It was a messy corner but Chelsea managed to clear eventually.

Going into the final ten minutes

Keira Walsh came on for Sjoeke Nüsken in the final ten minutes of the game. West Ham United were the ones that had to step up – and they did. Martinez, who had scored the 2-1, also scored the equaliser.

West Ham United became the third team to take points from Chelsea in the Women’s Super League, joining Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.
