West Ham reportedly want to replace £33 million star with free transfer this summer

There will be some huge changes at West Ham United in the summer.

The current West Ham squad is a really poor mish-mash of ageing mercenaries and overrated players who do not fit into Graham Potter‘s system.

However, the good news is that the Hammers head coach plans to change all of that.

It has been claimed that Graham Potter plans to rebuild his West Ham squad from top to bottom, and that’s exactly what is needed at the London Stadium.

Potter needs to strengthen his ranks in pretty much every single department this summer.

And central midfield is an area that is specifically in urgent need of attention.

West Ham want to replace £33 million star with Angel Gomes

According to The Athletic, Lille midfielder Angel Gomes is a key target for the Hammers this summer.

The 24-year-old star will be out of contract with Lille in the summer, and there is unsurprisingly a huge clamour for his signature.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

West Ham are said to have already made a proposal to Angel Gomes, and there is genuine belief that he could be a Hammer next season.

The former Manchester United man is an exceptional footballer. He has wonderfully tight ball control, and is fantastic when receiving the ball from his defenders in tight spaces.

Gomes would be absolutely perfect for Potter’s system, what with the Hammers head coach’s penchant for his teams to play out from the back.

And it seems like Gomes could come in as a replacement for one of our big-money signings.

West Ham want to replace Edson Alvarez with Angel Gomes

West Ham signed Edson Alvarez for £33 million in the summer of 2023 (Sky Sports Germany).

He has been a decent player for us in that time, but his disciplinary problems and recklessness have held him back.

Edson Alvarez apparently could leave West Ham to join Chelsea this summer.

The 27-year-old simply hasn’t lived up to expectations since swapping Ajax for the Hammers two years ago.

And if West Ham get a decent fee for him, whilst bringing in Angelo Gomes on a free transfer, it would be sensational business for the club.
