Arsenal may need to reward one of their key man with a new contract to secure his future with the club.

Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in world football over the last couple of years. The Brazilian has been a steady performer and a key reason for the club’s relative success in recent times, forming a rock-solid partnership with William Saliba.

Though, Gabriel has also attracted some transfer interest along the way, and it’s a situation Arsenal may need to address if they want to keep hold of him. Here we round up the latest.

Gabriel Magalhaes transfer interest

There has regularly been talk of interest in Gabriel’s services, which is no surprise given his consistent performances for the Gunners over recent years. Real Madrid have often ben linked, and it would be no surprise if links resurfaced given the Spanish giants are clearly on the lookout for a centre-back this summer. David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are not under long-term contracts, while Eder Militao has struggled for fitness of late.

Elsewhere, PSG have also been linked with a move for the Brazilian, likely one of the few clubs in world football who could pay what Arsenal would ask for if they were to sell one of their star centre-backs. There has also been talk of interest from Saudi Arabia.

How long does Gabriel Magalhaes have left on his Arsenal contract?

Gabriel’s current Arsenal contract lasts up until the summer of 2027. That means the Gunners are in a pretty strong position when it comes to handling any interest in their Brazilian defender.

Arsenal contract plans

According to fresh reports this week, Arsenal will look to address Gabriel’s contract situation in a bid to stave off any possible interest this summer. Football Insider say the Gunners are currently planning to extend Gabriel’s deal, with a contract offer ‘imminent’. A new deal would likely improve the defender’s terms while adding at least a couple of years to the duration column, likely taking him up to 2029, or 2030 if the club want to be particularly generous with their terms.

Arteta September

Speaking back in September, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke about how committed Gabriel is to the club. He said: “The way he was perceived when he arrived, obviously the language was a barrier…he didn’t have the environment, he didn’t have the family that he’s got today. He’s made a lot of right decisions,” Arteta said in his press conference ahead of the Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.

“He’s proved to everybody how committed he is to the team and to the club. Then obviously his performances are undeniable, that have taken him to a different level, in terms of the standards we set in the team, especially in the way that we have to defend.”

Gabriel on his connection with the fans

Gabriel spoke in February about hearing his name pop up in a new song fans have dedicated to him. He said: “Whenever I hear my own song as well… wow, it’s incredible. I’m so happy about that – it’s a dream for me. I always want to thank the Gunners fans for that, because I love it. I think it was my wife who heard it first on social media. She was so happy too.”
