It was clear in the early 2020s that Jimmy Butler became the leader and marquee star of the Miami Heat. Now that the former Eastern Conference Finals MVP had moved to the Golden State Warriors, Coach Erik Spoelstra had to rely on someone else to become their heart and soul. Who took on that mantle?
Well, it was none other than Bam Adebayo. The Heat big man is the new face of Heat culture and it shows in every play. How is he dealing with all of this and what's his mindset moving forward?
Adebayo got real with this new role after the Heat won over the Philadelphia 76ers with a 118-95 score, via Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.
"I bring the same positive optimistic energy every day. It doesn't matter what we're going through. If we're on a 10-game losing streak or if we've won seven straight, you got to keep that same energy because, like I preach to my teammates, you never know what can happen on the other side," he said.
The Heat just recently got out of a massive 10-game slump. Coach Erik Spoelstra surely needed Adebayo to step up inside the court and in the locker room to boost morale. What happened afterward? They ended up winning four straight games.
"For me, it was really just looking in the mirror. Like, how can I be better? What can I change as a captain, and as a leader to where we have this breakthrough and we make progressions?" the Heat big man added.
In 2024-25, Adebayo has managed to rack up 17.5 points while also grabbing 9.7 rebounds. On offense, his playmaking has grown a lot with his 4.3 assists. Defensively, the Heat big man's 1.3 steals have also turned the tides of games throughout their campaign.
