2025 NFL Draft: Travis Etienne Scouting Report

Trevor Etienne is another talented running back from the deep 2025 NFL Draft class. He has low mileage and decent production in his time playing for both Florida and Georgia. Travis is not the explosive runner that his brother, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, is, but he will use his vision and his elusive running style to escape defenders and run with maximum efficiency. He is great at hitting holes that blockers create, but he should not be counted on in short-yardage situations. Etienne has sure hands out of the backfield, is a good runner in space, and has an understanding of protections in the passing game.

He was a four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class before spending two productive seasons at Florida, contributing on offense and the return game. Etienne then transferred to Georgia when he made Third-Team All-Southeastern Conference after producing 609 yards on 122 carries and nine touchdowns on the ground while grabbing 32 receptions for 194 yards in only 10 starts. In 2024, he was suspended for the season opener after an arrest for DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, and materials reducing visibility in the windshield/windows. He also missed three games due to a rib injury.

Strengths

Eludes the first defender well to give the run a chance at success.

Runs through the hole with bend and body control at the line

Runs smoothly with his cuts and can accelerate.

Vision allows him to set up defenders to miss in the open field on sweeps and toss plays.

Hands are excellent coming out of the backfield.

He sorts through blitzes and stunts like a boss in pass protection.

Weaknesses

On the smaller side for a high-volume back in the NFL

Average explosiveness and playmaking ability

Below-average base strength and tackle-breaking ability.

Doesn’t have the burst to break into smaller spaces on the field

NFL comparison: Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks

Teams That Make a Potential Fit:Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers.

Draft Projection: Day Three (Fourth-fifth round)

Bottom Line on Trevor Etienne

Trevor Etienne comes in the 2025 NFL Draft as a classic third-down back who can catch passes out of the backfield and is capable of playing special teams, particularly on kickoff returns. Most teams in the NFL would love to have this type of player on their team that can contribute in those different ways. Etienne’s biggest hurdle is getting a bit bigger and stronger without sacrificing his speed and explosiveness because in the NFL, every second counts. Another plus is that he is adept at pass blocking, which is critical for a running back. All in all, Etienne has the skills to have a role in this league, at least as a backup running back as part of a rotation, and maybe in due time be a featured back in the league.
