The Pittsburgh Steelers are targeting a wide receiver with their first-round draft pick, according to Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda. That is despite trading for DK Metcalf, but with questions about George Pickens’ future, there could be an attempt made to land a wide receiver early in the draft.
Pauline heard that note after the Steelers’ top brass travelled to Columbus to see Emeka Egbuka at Ohio State’s pro day.
“The Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Chargers were two teams spoken about in Columbus who will look at receivers hard in the first round,” Pauline wrote. “And despite their moves this offseason, so too will the Steelers, as Egbuka had dinner with head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan on Tuesday night.”
Egbuka ran a 4.48 40-yard dash at his pro day, a strong number for someone who does not predicate his game on pure speed. Yet, he is not the only option for the Steelers in that range.
It seems that top wide receiver Tet McMillan is falling down boards, while Texas’ Matthew Golden, Missouri’s Luther Burden, and Iowa State’s Jayden Higgins remain candidates on top of Egbuka.
There is a strong crop of wide receivers in the first tier of this draft, but once the calendar flips over to day two, it gets thinner throughout the position group.
