Real Madrid line up £90 million move for Manchester United talisman

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of Manchester United mainstay Bruno Fernandes.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Real Madrid are considering knocking on the doors of Manchester United to sign their skipper, Bruno Fernandes. The Spanish giants are gearing up to make a £90 million offer as they look to bring the Portuguese star to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Fernandes has only gone from strength to strength since joining Manchester United from Sporting CP at the start of 2020. While things haven’t really gone according to plan for the Red Devils, the 30-year-old has been their standout performer over the years.

He has featured in a total of 277 matches for the Premier League giants and has contributed towards 177 goals. In a season where United have struggled in all competitions, Fernandes still has 32 goal contributions in his 44 outings.

While he prefers playing as a number ten, the United skipper can even feature in deeper roles in midfield, as well as a number nine if needed. He is an integral part of United’s plans moving ahead, and his contract at the club runs until the summer of 2027, with an option to extend it by another 12 months. Despite that, there is a possibility of him being on the move in the upcoming transfer window.

Los Blancos want to sign the United skipper

Fernandes is on the wishlist of Real Madrid. Representatives of the Spanish giants have been present in almost every United game of late. They have been keeping a close eye on the Red Devils’ skipper as they consider making a move for him this summer.

The team in white see him as an ideal replacement for Luka Modric, who is already 39. The Croatian international’s contract is running out, and even if he does extend for another year, he won’t be around for long. They are willing to fork out £90 million to sign the 30-year-old, which will be a record transfer fee for United.

While Ruben Amorim will be reluctant to lose his captain, United face a major dilemma. With limited funds, they can’t afford to dismiss such a substantial offer outright, as it could help strengthen the squad as a whole.
