Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett has a ‘legit shot’ to become the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot said. Pickett, who was traded to the Browns from the Philadelphia Eagles, is currently the likeliest option with no other veteran players in the room.
“If the Browns don’t land Kirk Cousins — and it’s probably unlikely at this point because of all the variable and financial considerations involved — Pickett moves into place as the veteran bridge even though he’s started only 25 games, going 14-10 with the Steelers and 1-0 with the Eagles last season," Cabot wrote.
Pickett was Jalen Hurts’ back up this year with the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing for 291 yards and two touchdowns in his one start. The Eagles were Pickett’s childhood team growing up, and he got to win a Super Bowl with them. Pickett even entered late in the game when the Eagles were crushing the Kansas City Chiefs.
Over his career, Pickett has played in 30 games, throwing for 4786 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The Steelers’ first-round pick out of Pitt in the 2022 NFL Draft, Pickett was heralded as a player who could help turn around the franchise after playing next door at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
