Liverpool plot offer for £150 million ex-Man City star

Liverpool can take a huge step towards the Premier League title by beating rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby at the start of April.

The Reds currently sit 12 points clear at the top of the standings, although second-placed Arsenal could cut that lead to nine points by beating Fulham before the Merseyside derby takes place.

Head coach Arne Slot will be desperate to see his side return to winning ways, having watched his side exit the Champions League and lose in the Carabao Cup final over the past few weeks.

Away from the action, it has emerged that Liverpool are contemplating a move for a former Premier League star.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes via GiveMeSport, the Reds are considering a shock move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The 25-year-old departed Manchester City to join Atletico last summer, having scored 36 goals in 103 gamed for the Citizens during a two-year spell in Manchester.

Alvarez left City last summer

Since moving to Spain, the Argentina international has been in fine form, netting 23 times in 45 games, as well as providing five assists.

It is claimed that Liverpool are prepared to table an offer of around £142 million foe the forward, who can play in a number of positions including as a striker, attacking midfielder or on the left flank.

Alvarez is under contract in Madrid until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, having signed a long-term contract with the Spanish giants when joining last summer.

It is claimed that Atletico are reluctant to sell Alvarez any time soon, with those in charge of the club viewing him as a ‘pillar’ of their project.

Liverpool may have to contend with the possible departure of talisman Mohamed Salah this summer, with the Egyptian’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
