Pelicans' head coach Willie Green will miss Sunday's game against Charlotte Hornets

The New Orleans Pelicans will be without their head coach for Sunday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Willie Green will miss the game due to personal reasons, the team announced Sunday afternoon.

Pelicans’ associate head coach James Borrego will fill in for Green.

Borrego, in his second season on the Pelicans’ staff, will be facing his former team.

Borrego served as head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from 2018-2022. He had a 138-163 record in his four seasons in Charlotte. He went 10-20 as interim coach for the Orlando Magic in the 2014-’15 after Jacque Vaughn was fired.

Zion Williamson (low back contusion), CJ McCollum (foot contusion) and Jordan Hawkins (low back spasms) are also out for the game between two of the worst teams in the NBA.

The Pelicans are 20-54. The Hornets are 18-55.
