Nick Sirianni Makes Thoughts Extremely Clear on Potential ‘Tush Push’ Ban

The Philadelphia Eagles are fresh off a dominant 2024 campaign that saw them win Super Bowl LIX over the Kansas City Chiefs. One of the plays that helped them get there, popularly known as the "tush push," could end up being banned by the NFL this offseason, with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni recently weighing in on the matter.

Philadelphia has become nearly unstoppable in short yardage situations thanks to their variation of a quarterback sneak that has two players get behind quarterback Jalen Hurts and push him forward behind their offensive line. According to reports, though, the push to ban the play is gaining momentum due to fears over player safety.

"I know we talked about it ... where I said that I think this probably would not be the year or I could see a change happen. I feel like it's getting more momentum in terms of those opposed to it than I've ever heard before. Usually, it's like everyone going, ‘Nah, nah, nah,' and there are those one or two people that sit on it and are against it, but it's catching fire," NFL insider Dianna Russini recently said on "Scoop City."

As opposition to the play mounts, Sirianni remains steadfastly in support of the play, which isn't a surprise considering the amount of success it has helped him achieve with the Eagles in recent seasons. And as the vote approaches, he's anticipating getting support from some of his former assistant coaches.

"We'll see how it goes. All I will say about it is (Jonathan) Gannon, (Shane) Steichen and (Kellen) Moore better vote for it. They are in the (head coach) position right now because of that play. So all three, I better have those three votes right there and the Eagles' vote. I at least know we have four," Sirianni said to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Spoke to Nick Sirianni today on the tush-push vote. With a grin, he said: "We'll see how it goes. All I will say about it is (Jonathan) Gannon, (Shane) Steichen and (Kellen) Moore better vote for it. With the NFL league meeting underway, all eyes are on the "tush push." In order for the play to be banned, 75% percent of the league's owners must vote in favor of the ban, which equates to 24 of the 32 teams.
