Arsenal are developing a strong interest in Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres as they look to sign a striker this summer, it has been claimed. Sweden international Gyokeres has been linked with a move to United after scoring 42 goals in 42 matches for Sporting CP during the 2024/25 season.

Reports in January claimed that United are hopeful of fending off from elsewhere to secure a deal for Gyokeres in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim worked with Gyokeres at Sporting and got the best out of the 26-year-old forward before leaving to join United in November.

Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry for £16.7million in July 2023 and hit the ground running in Portugal, finding the net 43 goals in 50 matches last season as Amorim's side won Primeira Liga. Although Gyokeres hit a little bit of a lull after Amorim's departure, he has now rediscovered his form.

The former Brighton frontman scored twice and grabbed an assist for Sporting during their win over Estrela Amadora on Saturday. And with Gyokeres continuing to find the net on a regular basis, interest in his services are growing, with Arsenal another team to be tracking his progress.

According to The Athletic, Mikel Arteta's side are eyeing up a move for Gyokeres as they consider their striker options. Gyokeres has long been admired by Arsenal's new sporting director Andrea Berta - who was appointed on Sunday - and is expected to figure prominently in their summer plans, the report adds.

Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak remain on Arsenal's radar but Gyokeres is considered as a more feasible option. It's reported that Sporting are willing to sell Gyokeres for around £58.5million - around £25m below his release clause. That would be £100m less than what Newcastle want for Isak.

If Arsenal move for Gyokeres, that would move him off United's summer shopping list. Amorim is expected to search for a new No.9, with the Manchester Evening News reporting in February that United coaches are losing patience with Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund scored his first goal in 22 matches for United during their 3-0 win at Leicester before the international break. Reflecting on breaking that barren run, the Dane said: "I think it comes down to my performances as well.

"I think obviously I've not been on top of my game as I wanted to, and we're still adapting to a new system and some new positions. But I think I've been growing into it lately and starting to look a bit better.

"I can't sit here and say everything, but I think we're starting to get a bit more connection between myself and the players, and then starting to understand what my qualities are even more, and playing to them as well.

"I'm developing and starting to understand their qualities, that's what the manager wants. He wants us to play to our strengths, and now we're starting to find each other even better."
