At this stage of the NFL offseason, the last major domino to fall in the quarterback market is Aaron Rodgers, with most folks believing he will eventually land with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, head coach Mike Tomlin's latest comments on the team's pursuit of the legendary passer don't exactly make it sound like a sure thing.
After a lackluster 2024 campaign, the New York Jets new regime opted to move on from Rodgers, releasing him once the new league year got underway. Several suitors have bowed out of the running for Rodgers, leaving only the Steelers, who brought him to town for a visit earlier in March.
"Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a free agent for the first time in his career, spent about six hours Friday visiting the Steelers at their practice facility, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Rodgers met with the team's coaches in what was described as a positive visit, with the two sides agreeing to stay in touch, sources added," Brooke Pryor of ESPN reported.
It seemed like the two sides were closing in on a deal in the wake of this visit, but to this point, no such contract has transpired. At the NFL league meeting on Sunday, Tomlin provided a murky update on Pittsburgh's pursuit of Rodgers, saying that they are still evaluating their options at quarterback.
"Mike Tomlin has no definitive update or timeline on Aaron Rodgers. He says they're still evaluating potential acquisitions at the position and doing their due diligence. He says they had a 'really good day' with Rodgers on his visit to Pittsburgh, got to know him better," Pryor shared in a post on X.

In 17 games for the Jets last season, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, but the team as a whole struggled, posting a lowly 5-12 record. After losing Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in free agency, the Steelers currently only have Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson on their roster at the quarterback position.
