Chelsea plot €40 million raid on Serie A giants for star goalkeeper, Aston Villa also keen

Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay around €40 million for Mike Maignan, with Aston Villa also keen on AC Milan’s star goalkeeper.

According to Milan-Live, Chelsea are likely to push with an offer to sign Mike Maignan in the summer, with the report stating a proposal worth around €40 million could be put on the table. Apart from the Blues, Aston Villa are also interested in AC Milan’s star goalkeeper, with the Frenchman’s future in considerable doubt.

AC Milan are preparing for a pivotal summer window, where they could potentially lose a host of their key players should they fail to qualify for the Champions League. The Rossoneri are still far away from one of those top four spots, which could spark a mini-exodus of sorts, with Mike Maignan at the centre of it.

Maignan;’s current deal expires in 2026, which does make his position critical with the club. The report does state the star goalkeeper may have an agreement of sorts with Milan, although nothing seems to be signed yet, which is another signal of the keeper waiting to see where the club finishes at the end of the season.

The French international has no shortage of suitors in the market, with most of those coming from the Premier League. Manchester United have shown an interest to sign Maignan as a potential replacement for Andre Onana, while Chelsea and Aston Villa are among those keen.

Aston Villa’s interest is rather peculiar considering they have a top goalkeeper in Emi Martinez, who has been performing superbly and has a contract until 2029. The idea might be to bring in someone who could compete with the Argentine World Cup winner, as Unai Emery might also be plotting a change of scenery between the sticks.

Chelsea to make Mike Maignan offer

Chelsea on the other hand, have been in the market for a new goalkeeper, with many names being linked. One of those is Aaron Ramsdale, with the former Arsenal star set to suffer relegation with Southampton and is eager to stay in the Premier League. However, the Blues are not considering the England international alone, as they have other names like Maignan on their list to become their new No.1 from next season.

Chelsea are preparing to make a €40 million offer and hopes that Milan accepts their terms. The Blues feel they are in a good position in the chase for the star goalkeeper given his current contract situation. For now, things point towards a potential departure for Maignan from the San Siro, with England likely to be his next destination.
