Last seaosn, in large part thanks to a rotation including Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, OG Anunoby, and Julius Randle, the New York Knicks boasted the tenth best defense in the league. This season, with Karl-Anthony Towns, their offense has imporved from seventh to fifth, but their defense ranks 14th in the league, barley above average.
A recently proposed mock trade would have the Knicks double-down on offensive success while giving up the best defender on the team.
According to *The Sporting News'*Dean Simon, the Knicks could take advantage of the Kings' sustained mediocrity and make a bid for Domantas Sabonis, who could be on the trade block either this summer or during next season.
In order to make a deal work, the Knicks would have to include OG Anunoby and Miles McBride in the deal, as well as some significant draft capital.
Of course, swapping Anunoby to build a frontcourt with Towns and Sabonis would be enough to ruin the Knicks' defense, but it would give them perhaps the best offense in the league, although head coach Tom Thibodeau, who has long been praised for his defense, wouldn't stand for it.
"The possibility of Sabonis taking the court for the Knicks on a nightly basis would surely be a nightmare for opponents in the East, as his introduction to the team would also mark the addition of a sensational play-maker and extremely versatile scorer from the center position that can allow the floor-spacing threat Towns to play the power forward position if need be," Simon wrote.

Towns has played power forward before, sharing the court with Rudy Gobert last season. The Minnesota Timberwolves made it to the Conference Finals before being sent home by Luka Doncic.
However, last year's Wolves team utilized two bigs with vastly different skillsets. It's hard to imagine Sabonis and Towns not stepping o each other's toes.
