Three talking points from Barcelona 4-1 Girona

Barcelona can’t stop scoring - even without Raphinha

Barcelona continued their unbeaten run in 2025 with a 4-1 win over Girona that keeps Hansi Flick’s men three points clear at the top of the table in Spain.

The Catalans scored four times to take their tally to 139 goals in 45 games. That’s a stat that no La Liga team has ever hit before. Even Flick seemed blown away by his team’s goalscoring prowess after the match.

And Sunday’s match was won without Raphinha - who has arguably been Barca’s top performer this season - with the Brazilian still feeling the effects of a gruelling international break.

Yet Barca continued to plunder the goals without their brilliant Brazilian. Lamine Yamal forced the opener, before Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace to take his La Liga tally to 25 for the season.

And there was even time for goal No. 15 for the season for Ferran Torres. Flick’s team still isn’t perfect, and does have its faults, but scoring goals is something they absolutely relish.

Eric Garcia becomes Barca’s latest centurioun

Eric Garcia isn’t a player who gets the plaudits very often but he’s clearly a favourite of Hansi Flick’s and enjoyed a special day on Sunday.

Flick handed Eric a start which brought up his 100th appearance for Barcelona. The fact it came against Girona, where Eric enjoyed a good season on loan, probably made it even more special.

And Garcia enjoyed another good game for Barcelona, too. The 24-year-old has become a really useful option for Barca. He can play at center-back or in midfield and seems to have improved so much under Flick.

“This is a journey that started when I was a youngster at La Masia. Reaching 100 appearances with the team is very, very important to me,” he said afterwards.

“I’m a centre-back, but I try to help the team wherever the manager thinks it’s necessary. With the players I have around me, everything is easier.”

Fermin and Frenkie on fire against Girona

Injuries to Dani Olmo and Marc Casado have given Hansi Flick a few things to think about in the last couple of weeks and have also ensured he’s had to make changes to his team.

Fermin Lopez was the beneficiary against Girona as he came into the starting line-up and was a real handful. He’s also probably still wondering why he wasn’t awarded a penalty in the first half.

The youngster did go on to grab an assist for Robert Lewandowski and was then joined on the pitch by Frenkie de Jong who was unleashed from the bench.

Barcelona’s Dutchman helped put the game out of reach with a brilliant turn and run to tee up Lewandowski for his second of the match to make it 3-1 in a move that left Flick purring

“I spoke to him when I arrived, as soon as he arrived,” he said afterwards.

“He had that serious injury, but step by step he improved. You can see how brilliant and wonderful he is. He’s capable of dribbling, he’s fast, he always knows how to pass... he’s excellent.”

Flick will be hoping both players can keep on delivering as Barcelona head into a crucial phase of the season both at home and abroad.
