Browns GM Provides Massive Update About NFL Draft Plans Amid Cam Ward Rumors

The Cleveland Browns desperately need a viable starting quarterback, and the 2025 NFL draft could be a place to find one.

Although the 2025 class isn't considered deep at QB, it still includes some talented options, such as Miami's Cam Ward. The 22-year-old won the 2024 Davey O'Brien Award as college football's best QB.

However, will Ward be available for the Browns, who have pick No. 2 in the draft? The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 pick and seem interested in the Miami QB. On Saturday, Titans head coach Brian Callahan told NFL Media's Tom Pelissero Ward, Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and Penn State edge-rusher Abdul Carter are the top players in the draft (h/t NFL Media's Coral Smith).

Perhaps that's why the Browns aren't planning on making a blockbuster trade. On Sunday at the league meetings in Palm Beach, Florida, Browns general manager Andrew Berry said it's unlikely they trade up for the No. 1 pick, per ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi.

The Browns may feel giving up more draft capital doesn't make sense when they could still take Sanders, another talented QB. In 13 games in 2024, he completed 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdown passes.

Adding Sanders could still help Cleveland improve its QB room. Starting QB Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles for a second time in January and is expected to miss most of the 2025 season. In seven games in 2024, Watson posted a below-average 23.4 QBR.

In March, the Browns acquired QB Kenny Pickett in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. In three seasons with the Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickett has thrown 15 TD passes and 14 interceptions.
