Chicago Bears fans love to say the NFL goes out of its way to give the Green Bay Packers every advantage possible. That is why it always seems like the referees make calls that benefit them in key situations. Recent updates probably won’t change that narrative. Green Bay put forth a proposal to the competition committee to ban the “Tush Push” offensive play popularized by the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. In this play, the quarterback runs a sneak, and his teammates lined up behind him come up and push. The Eagles have been almost impossible to stop in those situations.
According to Kalyn Kahler of ESPN, there is growing momentum in certain league circles to get the play banned, leading to some fierce debates within the committee.
The Green Bay Packers’ proposal to ban the push sneak, popularly known as the tush push, has support within the competition committee, a source with direct knowledge told ESPN on Sunday.
Another source with direct knowledge of competition committee thinking said the proposal would be “hotly contested” among the coaches, general managers and owners as they gather for league meetings this week.
The league office staff presented the rules proposals during the football operations meeting Sunday afternoon, and two sources in the meeting described the back and forth as “heated” regarding the proposal to “prohibit an offensive player from pushing a teammate who was lined up directly behind the snapper and receives the snap, immediately at the snap.”
This isn’t surprising.
Green Bay was victimized multiple times last season by the Tush Push. Their inability to stop it, which cost them in two pivotal games, no doubt led to bitter feelings among team brass. They will hide behind the guise of player safety when trying to outlaw it. In reality, they’re trying to find a way to weaken their biggest NFC competition the bitchest way possible.
The Green Bay Packers remain the ultimate hypocrites.
Even while trying to get the Tush Push banned, they themselves have benefitted from the play. They literally ran it last year successfully. It is hilarious how that organization tries to present itself as the most upstanding and pure in the NFL because they have no owner but, in reality, are as shady and hypocritical as any other franchise. It’s always been easy to hate the Green Bay Packers. Yet they keep finding ways to lower the difficulty even further. This is why beating them is always a cause to celebrate in Chicago and elsewhere. Knocking the Packers off that pedestal is so cathartic. The hilarious part is that even if they do get the rule banned, they probably still won’t be able to beat the Eagles.
