Alongside Viktor, Arsenal should now sign versatile £63m forward ready to challenge for titles

Arsenal are poised to bolster their attack when the transfer window reopens this summer.

A marquee striker is a priority for the London giants. The club could also pursue another versatile forward who can operate anywhere in the final third.

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha is one of the names on their radar and he has now said that he is prepared to take the next step in his career.

The Brazil international declined the opportunity to leave Wolves in January out of respect, considering they were in a relegation battle in the top flight.

However, with the club’s Premier League status almost secure, the attacker is ready for a bigger challenge with another club where he can fight for titles.

He told The Guardian: “I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it. Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

Arsenal must swoop for Cunha this summer

Cunha has had a productive campaign with Wolves. He has scored 15 goals and provided four assists from just 29 appearances in all competitions.

The Brazilian started his career as a centre-forward, but he has been most successful in an attacking midfield role for the Midlands outfit this season.

Cunha can also operate from the left wing or right wing. His versatility would make him a perfect signing for the Gunners during the next transfer window.

Aside from his goal contributions, Cunha has excelled with his dribbling. He has worked hard off the ball, winning almost six duels and making four recoveries per game.

The former Atletico Madrid man has a £63 million release clause in his contract. Arsenal should open talks with Wolves to negotiate a long-term payment package.

Convincing Cunha may not be an issue with the club’s progress over the past few seasons.

New sporting director Andrea Berta played a big role in signing Cunha for Atletico from Hertha. The 53-year-old could be tasked with bringing the 25-year-old to Arsenal.

The Gunners have already developed a strong interest in Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres. They can make a huge statement by recruiting Cunha alongside the Swede this summer.
