**West Ham** can expect a second offer from Manchester United for defender Jean-Clair Todibo. That’s the latest twist in a developing story, following earlier reports suggesting the Hammers had an opportunity to sell the centre-back as early as January.
Todibo was on Manchester United’s radar last summer but was unable to complete a move due to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s shareholdings in both Nice and United. That situation opened the door for West Ham to swoop in—beating Juventus to the punch—and secure Todibo on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.
It’s now emerged via [The Athletic](https://x.com/TheAthleticFC) that West Ham could have paid the £35 million [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) fee in January and immediately flipped the player to Manchester United for a tidy £10 million profit.
That plan was only halted when Todibo himself expressed a clear desire to remain in East London.
Speaking to Claret & Hugh last night, a well-placed transfer insider revealed:
“They’ll be back in the summer with a bigger bid.”
Intriguing stuff—but with manager Graham Potter planning to assess Nayef Aguerd, Max Kilman, and Todibo as part of a back-three setup next season, it’s looking increasingly likely that West Ham will reject any fresh approach—as long as the player wishes to stay.
