Alan Shearer admits what Eddie Howe banned his Newcastle players from during Carabao Cup party

Alan Shearer has revealed a secret from Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup celebration on Saturday.

Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United team were paraded through the streets before taking to the stage at the Town Moor, as a staggering number of supporters celebrated the end of the Magpies’ trophy drought.

It was a remarkable day. Toon legend Alan Shearer was blown away by what he saw, having watched the open-top bus arrive at the Town Moor and addressed supporters on stage.

While Shearer was in full party mode as he continues to celebrate Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup, there was one strict rule for Eddie Howe’s players.

Alan Shearer reveals what Eddie Howe told the Newcastle United players

That is according to Shearer, who spoke about Newcastle’s cup celebration on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast.

“They’ve got Brentford on Wednesday and they trained yesterday,” he said.

“They’re training today, they’re training Monday, they’re training Tuesday, and they’re training Wednesday morning as well because Eddie had taken them to Dubai and he said, no, that’s your party.

“And they weren’t allowed to drink yesterday, or last evening. None of them went to the after party. He got them back straight in and focused.”

Newcastle United must capitalise on Carabao Cup win

Howe and the Newcastle players celebrated as champions on Saturday, but they did not celebrate with any alcohol.

The season is not over. There are still 10 Premier League games to go, and there is still a lot to play for.

The Magpies are firmly in the mix to qualify for the Champions League. In fact, their fate is in their own hands.

But that could change, which is why Newcastle need to use the Carabao Cup as a springboard – starting on Wednesday night against Brentford at St James’ Park.

That will be Newcastle’s first game since the cup final. There can be no hangover from the celebrations. Howe’s players have to build on their success at Wembley, and continue the feelgood factor from Saturday’s party.

That is why Howe imposed an alcohol ban, but it certainly did not stop his players from having a good time. They were treated as the legends they are, and they must continue to perform as such for the final 10 games of the season.
