Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has said that the surprising links between the Reds and Harry Kane don’t “make sense”.
Liverpool could sign a striker in the summer transfer window due to Darwin Nunez’s inconsistent performances since joining the club in 2022. The Uruguayan has made 23 Premier League appearances this season for the Reds, scoring five goals.
The Reds have been linked to Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak alongside Arsenal, however, recent reports have suggested that Liverpool could sign Bayern Munich striker and England captain Harry Kane.

The Bayern number nine will have a £54 million release clause in the summer, and so many have suggested that he could move back to the Premier League. As reported in the Mirror, former England striker Alan Shearer said that he thought Kane would move to Liverpool if he returned to England.
However, ex-Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes that it wouldn’t make sense. Lawrenson was speaking to Paddy Power: “If Harry Kane joined Liverpool alongside Mo Salah, you can only imagine the number of goals they will score.
“Having said that, would his wife and children want to go to Merseyside, or would they want to go back to London? Some team from London will take him – if not Spurs themselves.
“I don’t see him joining Liverpool, and I think they need a pacier player anyway. I do not see him going to Liverpool. It doesn’t really make any sense.”
Which striker could Liverpool sign?
The links to Harry Kane seem to be tenuous at best, with the strongest links to Liverpool continuing to be Isak from Newcastle. The problem that the Reds have with Isak is that the Magpies are expected to price him at a fee of well over £100m, with suggestions that it could be closer to £150m.
Plus, they have only said that they are willing to sell the Sweden international if they fail to finish in a Champions League spot. With silverware now gracing St James’ Park, the biggest question is whether Isak would like to stay considering the development that Newcastle are going through.
