The Reds draw with Hull City on Trentside as Holly Manders’ first half opener is cancelled out by a late equaliser.

Forest hosted Hull City at The City Ground on Sunday afternoon looking to extend their lead at the top of the Northern Premier Division table.

Head coach Carly Davies made three changes from the eleven that started the FA WNL Cup final as Holly Manders, Caragh Hamilton and Katie Dungate returned.

The Reds started on the front foot with the hosts dominating possession in the opening stages. Nat Johnson came closest to opening the scoring as her long distance effort was tipped over the bar.

Forest did make the breakthrough in the 11th minute when Manders’ set her sights at goal from the edge of the area and saw her looping strike find the top corner.

In a continuous spell of pressure at The City Ground, Forest controlled the ball but couldn’t find a second as Charlie Wellings, Nat Johnson and Hollie Olding all had attempts from distance go amiss.

Freya Thomas had an excellent opportunity to double the lead as Melissa Johnson’s cross into the box met the midfielder’s head, an effort that went wide of the near post.

With the interval fast approaching, Melissa Johnson had a golden opportunity to grab Forest’s second as the striker was played through on goal only to be denied by a good stop by Wallace at the near post.

HALF-TIME: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Hull City

The hosts started the second 45 brightly with goalscorer Manders again firing a strike from the edge of the box towards goal, this time seeing her effort drift just off target.

Pressing to extend their advantage on Trentside, Forest worked more opportunities to score as Wellings and Katie Dungate’s attempts failed to force a save from Wallace.

Carly Davies made a triple substitution with 25 minutes left on the clock as Megan Bell, Sophie Domingo and Holly Turner entered the action.

Substitutes Turner and Bell both had opportunities to extend the lead as the striker, Turner, fired wildly over the bar and the Northern Ireland international, Bell, fired just wide from distance.

Two further changes saw Kate Longhurst and Millie Chandarana introduced with ten minutes remaining in the league clash.

The visitors made Forest pay for their missed chances when a free kick was headed in at the near post to level the score at The City Ground.

Forest pushed for a later winner on Trentside with Wellings coming closest as the winger whipped a strike at goal, only see her effort miss the far post by a few inches.

FULL-TIME: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Hull City

The draw sees Forest stay top of the Northern Premier Division with Wolves now level of points following their win against Burnley.
