Everton have several expiring contracts they need to resolve ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Toffees are heading into a new era as they prepare to depart Goodison Park, and a major squad overhaul appears to be on the cards this summer.
David Moyes has a lot to do in the window, both in terms of signings as well as contracts, with a number of players set to leave for free as it stands.
While Abdoulaye Doucoure appears set to leave once his deal expires, backup goalkeeper Joao Virginia has spoken out about his future.

Virginia wants new Everton contract
Virginia is out of contract at the end of the season, and despite featuring just twice all season, he has now publicly asked for a new deal to keep him at Everton.

“It’s Everton that has to trigger the option. I’m hoping they do, to be fair, because I love the club, I love everything around it,” he told the Liverpool Echo (March 31).
“I’m very settled on Merseyside. My priority would be playing more games, and if I can do that, Everton would be amazing.

“It is not an easy spot to be in, being a backup. It’s something that weighs on your mind, it’s tough, it gets you tired because ideally you want to be playing more and more.”

Everton could benefit from Virginia contract extension
Jordan Pickford is Everton’s clear number-one goalkeeper, and that is unlikely to change before the start of next season.
With a lot of work to do in other areas of the pitch, it would save Everton time and money to extend Virginia’s contract, rather than having to replace him with another backup goalkeeper.
The 25-year-old has performed steadily when called upon and is clearly happy to stay at the club in his current role, even if he is keen on a few more appearances going forward.
Finding a goalkeeper willing to play in a backup role for someone as established as Pickford will not be easy, and Everton could avoid this daunting task by handing Virginia an extension, with his last contract signed in 2023.
Moyes will want stability in key areas of his squad ahead of such a huge summer, and with the likes of Angus Kinnear coming in, having players willing to sign contract extensions helps massively.
Virginia could be the first on a long list to sign a new deal under the Friedkins and Moyes.
