Newcastle firm on Alexander Isak’s availability next summer

Newcastle United remain firm in their stance that Alexander Isak is not for sale, despite growing interest from Liverpool and others ahead of the summer window.

The Athletic’s Chris Waugh reports that “Newcastle are adamant that will not be the case, with the message from multiple senior figures being that Isak is not for sale.”

Waugh added that even last summer, when the club faced urgent pressure to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, they “never considered parting with the Swede” despite “tentative enquiries from Chelsea.”

Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales has been unequivocal in recent public comments, saying it “would be crazy” to consider selling any of the club’s top players.

According to Waugh, that message is consistent internally, with “several senior figures at St James’ Park” agreeing with manager Eddie Howe that Isak is “irreplaceable.”

Isak still has three years remaining on his contract, and while talks over an extension have been paused, Newcastle “intend to restart them during the off-season.” Waugh reports that the club “do not need to sell, nor do they want to,” and believe “it would take a bid well in excess of £100million” to even begin shifting their position.

The belief at Newcastle is that after winning the Carabao Cup last month, along with the possibility of still earning Champions League qualification for 2025–26, the club is in a stronger-than-ever position to convince Isak to stay, if not sign a long(er)-term deal.

Isak’s ambitions, however, will naturally play a role in how things unfold, but Newcastle are confident they remain in control for at least the next few years.
