Barry Ferguson is already pushing for the permanent manager role at Rangers.
Rangers have enjoyed their best few weeks of an otherwise miserable season since Philippe Clement was dismissed in February, with Ferguson injecting new life into the squad.
The Gers reached the Europa League quarter-finals, won a dramatic Old Firm clash and came back from 3-1 down to beat Dundee 4-3 in their recent matches under Ferguson.
With no decision yet made over who could be the next permanent Rangers manager under potential new owners 49ers Enterprises, Ferguson may be in the running to continue in his role next season.

Ferguson to reject backseat role at Rangers
With Ferguson impressing in the hot seat, the 47-year-old could take the permanent manager role at the end of the season, but if someone else is hired, he is unlikely to stay on in a different role.

Writing in the Daily Record on 31 March, Keith Jackson has now claimed that Ferguson’s character means that he is unlikely to drop down to an assistant role for a new manager after his interim spell.

“It’s highly unlikely, for example, that he would settle for a patronising pat on the head, the offer of a place on someone else’s backroom team should Cavenagh and his consortium conclude that they have a different managerial option in mind,” Jackson stated.
“Ferguson, simply, is not the kind of person to settle for playing second fiddle to anyone, and now that he’s had a taste for the top job, it’s very probably going to be all or nothing where he is concerned.”

Rangers may need experienced manager for rebuild
While Ferguson has worked wonders with the team at his disposal, it is clear that no matter who the manager is, the Rangers squad needs a big rebuild in the summer.
With this in mind, Rangers may need to hire an experienced manager to help oversee this rebuild and start next season in the best possible way.
Marco Rose has been linked, in what would be a huge coup for the Gers, and he would be a much higher-profile addition than keeping Ferguson on.
In the past, Rangers have made the mistake of handing interim Graeme Murty a bigger role after a few impressive results as a caretaker, and this backfired.
Rangers cannot afford to start next season poorly and be in a similar position midway through next season, and this may mean the risk of backing Ferguson over a more experienced option might be too high.
