Pereira is doing one thing far less than Gary O'Neil at Compton, the Wolves players like it -…

Vitor Pereira has proven to be a great appointment by Wolves.

The Portuguese joined the club on December 19, and his task was very clear – keep Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club in the Premier League.

It was a situation that mirrored when Julen Lopetegui came in during the 2022/23 season.

The Spaniard was required to execute a safety mission, and brought in several new players in January to help hi achieve it.

Vitor Pereira looks like he will do the same thing, and there is a growing feeling that Wolves could be going places under this manager.

Fans have really taken to him in the first few months.

And it seems the players really have too, and there is a new claim about Pereira behind the scenes at Wolves that makes for interesting reading.

It was claimed last week by journalist Liam Keen that Pereira is greatly admired behind the scenes at Wolves for how he comes across.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

He is respectful and engaging to everyone, and is a popular figure at Wolves’ training ground Compton Park.

Journalist Johnny Phillips has written an interesting piece about Wolves and made a claim about the way Pereira operates.

He talks about the way Pereira has ’empowered’ his players since he came in – and that there is far less emphasis on detailed analysis, which was something Gary O’Neil was big on.

Phillips writes: “The first team analysts typically have a quieter working week under Pereira than they managed during Gary O’Neil’s time at the club.

“The Portuguese has displayed a willingness to trust his players to make the right decisions on the pitch, believing in the muscle memory of elite professional footballers rather than dissecting every passage of play with layer upon layer of analysis.

“Periera has earned the confidence of his players and those above him in the hierarchy.”

Pereira has big potential at Wolves

It was often said about O’Neil that he was very detailed and meticulous.

While that can be a good thing, there is also the potential for it to wear thin after a period of time.

It sounds like Pereira is more trusting of the players to make the right decisions for themselves. And given the results so far, it sounds like this approach has worked.

It’s been a great start for the Portuguese at Molineux so far and it looks like he’ll keep Wolves up.

There is definitely potential here for Wolves to push on after a rocky past few years.

But of course, that is going to depend a lot of the level of backing he gets from Fosun, who are once again set to adopt a self-sustaining model this summer.
