David Ornstein has provided a major transfer update, revealing that Arsenal have intensified their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres as they aim to bolster their attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Swedish forward, who joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, has a €100 million buyout clause, though reports suggest he could be available for a significantly lower fee.
Newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta, whose arrival was confirmed on Sunday, is believed to be a strong admirer of Gyokeres. Arsenal are determined to secure a high-profile striker, and Gyokeres has emerged as one of their primary targets.

According toThe Athletic, Gyokeres is considered a more attainable option than Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, who remains on Arsenal’s radar but is unlikely to be allowed to leave St. James’ Park. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is another name under consideration, though it remains unclear whether Arsenal will make a formal approach.

Arsenal’s need for a striker has been evident throughout the season, particularly following injuries to key forwards Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. While Havertz has contributed 15 goals across all competitions, Arsenal are widely believed to require an upgrade in their attacking department to enhance their title ambitions. The club’s injury crisis even saw midfielder Mikel Merino deployed as a makeshift striker on occasion.
Despite his lack of Premier League experience, Gyokeres is familiar with English football from his time at Coventry City, where he excelled in the Championship. He also played a key role in Sporting’s Portuguese league triumph last season.
Arsenal’s pursuit of a striker dates back to the winter transfer window, when they attempted to sign Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins but were unsuccessful. With the summer window approaching, the Gunners are now expected to push forward with their efforts to land a top-class forward, with Gyokeres firmly on their radar.
