The Pittsburgh Steelers could have a fallback plan if Aaron Rodgers decides to leave them hanging. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Steelers will be interested in Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins if they can not land Rodgers.
Cabot notes the Steelers will ‘likely be’ intrigued by what Cousins brings to the table, and it seems the Browns are fading in the conversation around Cousins. That could open the door for the Steelers to make a move for the former Pro Bowler.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated said late last week Cousins will have a few teams interested in his services.
“With his $10 million guarantee for 2025 vested, Kirk Cousins is now looking at potentially slow-playing his next move,” Breer wrote. “If, say, Rodgers picks the Steelers this week, I’d expect that the Giants and Cleveland Browns would have at least some interest in making a move for the Atlanta Falcons’ very pricey backup. Ditto for the Steelers if they strike out.”
According to Josina Anderson, the Falcons are asking for a third round pick for Cousins, meaning they would have to take on a significant portion of his contract for that to go through. Anderson does not anticipate Cousins being moved before the NFL Draft.
Cousins has expressed he would like to leave the Falcons for a new team where he could start this season. Coming off a torn Achilles in 2023, Cousins never fully looked like himself after surgery and a return. Still, the Falcons signed him to a four-year, $180 million contract that made him a highly compensated quarterback.
