Ukraine’s recovery in action: watch new episode of Recovery Diary
EU NEIGHBOURS EAST, in partnership with ICTV and Recovery Window, continues to highlight reconstruction and recovery projects funded by the EU and its member states.
In the latest episode, journalists explore key recovery efforts across Ukraine: the reconstruction of schools and the construction of student shelters, Italy’s plans to restore the iconic Antonivskyi bridge, ongoing repairs to water supply systems damaged by shelling, and the innovative water purification technology being introduced by European experts.
Eight frontline regions have received 16 new emergency response vehicles through the EU4Recovery flagship partnership, enhancing Ukraine’s ability to respond to crises.
Germany is reinforcing Ukraine’s defence by providing 1,600 special protective structures to Ukrainian border guards. These shelters will cover 8 km of key positions—along the border, near critical infrastructure, and on the front line.
Iceland has pledged an additional €2 million to support Ukraine’s energy sector, bringing its total contribution to over €5.6 million. These funds are being used to procure equipment for affected enterprises in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
Under the Team Europe initiative, the EU, Sweden, and Germany have announced a new €44 million aid package for Ukraine, with €6 million dedicated specifically to advancing gender equality and combating domestic and sexual violence.
Katarína Mathernová, EU Ambassador to Ukraine, says:
“I am deeply impressed by Ukrainian women and the many roles and responsibilities they have taken on, often those traditionally carried out by men. They are fighting on the front lines alongside men, but we also recognise their struggles on the home front, which they have embraced with unwavering resolve. […] From this new package, €6 million will be allocated to strengthening gender equality and tackling domestic and sexual violence.”
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, EU support for Ukraine has reached nearly €140 billion. Follow Recovery Diary to see how these funds are making an impact.
