Marine Le Pen’s Niece Marion Marechal Speaks Out After Guilty Verdict

Marion Maréchal spoke out in support of her aunt Marine Le Pen and attacked French judges after the National Rally leader's conviction in an embezzlement trial left her barred from standing for office at the next presidential election in France.

Maréchal is seen as a likely successor to Le Pen as leader of the French far-right, which is on the cusp of a breakthrough to presidential power. Maréchal is the granddaughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen, the late far-right leader whose dynasty still dominates.

"For decades, the national camp and our family have suffered every blow, every attack, every injustice," Maréchal posted on the social media platform X.

"Judges, thinking themselves above the sovereign people, have decided to execute in a court of law the woman they were never able to force back at the ballot box."

Le Pen is leading French President Emmanuel Macron in the polls ahead of 2027, which would have been her fourth—and she said last—run for the presidency.

Macron's presidency is unpopular, and he is struggling to hold together a coalition of voters whose support he enjoyed largely because they wanted to keep Le Pen and the National Rally out of power in France.

This is a developing story and more information will be added shortly.
