Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned on Monday that the United States would receive a “strong reciprocal blow” if it follows through on President Donald Trump’s threat to bomb Iran unless a new nuclear deal is reached.

“The enmity from the U.S. and Israel has always been there. They threaten to attack us, which we don’t think is very probable, but if they commit any mischief, they will surely receive a strong reciprocal blow,” Khamenei said.

Trump reissued his threat on Sunday, reinforcing demands outlined in a letter sent to Iranian leadership in early March that gives Tehran a two-month deadline to agree to talks.

In response, Iran summoned Switzerland’s ambassador, who represents U.S. interests in the country, with the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressing determination to respond “decisively and immediately” to any threat.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian clarified last week that while Tehran would not engage in direct negotiations with Washington, it remained open to indirect talks, in accordance with Khamenei’s directives.

“An open threat of ‘bombing’ by a head of state against Iran is a shocking affront to the very essence of international peace and security,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei tweeted on Monday.

Khamenei also warned against potential foreign interference in domestic affairs, saying, “If they are thinking of causing sedition inside the country, as in past years, the Iranian people themselves will deal with them.”
