Serie A club Genoa will reportedly demand around £20-25 million to part ways with versatile 22-year-old Belgian defender Koni De Winter amid his links with Everton.
According to a report by Football Insider, Koni De Winter is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Genoa defender. The Serie A club will demand around £20-25 million to part ways with the Belgian international.
Koni De Winter and his progress at Genoa
Koni De Winter has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Serie A since joining Genoa from Juventus. The Antwerp native has been in Italy since July 2018, and he graduated from the youth division at Juventus. However, he could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Allianz Stadium.
The 22-year-old initially joined Genoa on loan in August 2023 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. De Winter has turned out 50 times thus far for Il Grifone while chipping in with three goals and one assist. The youngster’s exploits for the Serie A club have helped him break into his national squad.
Meanwhile, De Winter’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the Genoa defender, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Koni De Winter makes sense. The Toffees are in a spot of bother over Jarrad Branthwaite’s long-term future, with the English international a target for several high-profile clubs across Europe. In addition, Michael Keane might not be with the Merseyside outfit in the 2025/26 season.
So, several centre-backs, including Maxime Esteve, have emerged on Everton’s radar, with De Winter also a viable target heading into the summer transfer window. The Toffees now know how much it will take to land the Genoa defender, with the Serie A club demanding around £20-25 million to part ways with him.
Everton should have the funds to afford a deal worth £20-25 million to secure De Winter’s services. It will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club can land the 22-year-old Belgian international in the coming months.
