Adamson students develop mechanism to detect gas leaks

Students from Adamson University have developed a mechanism that can help detect gas leaks, which may cause fire-related incidents.

Martin Javier featured in the "Game Changer" segment of "24 Oras" on Monday, the “Prest-O-Grip” that has an LCD screen that shows when the LPG tank is closed or opened.

It is more advanced than LPG valves, which at times causes confusion whether or not it is opened.

In the demonstration, developer Ray Tristan Publeo, an engineer, used a lighter to trigger the sensor since it has similar elements to the LPG.

“Meron tayong motor na directly naka-connect sa valve natin in which na kapag naka-detect ng gas, automatically magru-run yung motor and ico-close niya yung valve,” developer Gilmore Flyd Lozano explained.

(We have a motor that is directly connected to the valve in which, once it detects the gas, will automatically run and close the valve.)

Once there is wifi, the Prest-O-Grip can be controlled and monitored remotely through an app.

Developer James Bernard Yuman said Prest-O-Grip has a check status button.

He also explained that the mechanism would send an SMS once it detects a leak.

Fire from cooking, including the use of an LPG tank, is the third leading cause of fire-related incidents in 2024. **— Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News**
