Diplomacy Week Opened the Door to the World of Diplomacy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the first edition of the "Diplomacy Week 2025" in the week of 24-28 March 2025. The program involved over 60 schools across the Czechia, dozens of Czech and foreign diplomats and Czech embassies abroad.

The main objective of the Diplomacy Week was to introduce the public to the work of diplomats, their experience abroad, the functioning of the Ministry and to explain key foreign policy topics.

Diplomacy Week also included the "Adopt an Embassy" initiative, which connected Czech schools with Czech embassies abroad. Students were able to learn more about specific regions and find out how diplomats work in different parts of the world. In addition, secondary schools received activity packages for students that included a diplomatic negotiation simulation, a diplomatic quiz and other useful materials. The program also included a public discussion at the Scout Institute in Prague on NATO, a visit to the Senior Citizens' Association in České Budějovice and media interviews.

For example, students from the Secondary School for the Hearing Impaired in Prague 5 visited the British Embassy in Prague and had the opportunity to have a discussion with Ambassador Matt Field. The Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department, Petr Hladík, visited secondary schools in Most, students of Obchodní akademie Slaný connected via video call with the Czech Ambassador in Canberra, Australia, Jana Tyrer, and students of Gymnázium Evolution in Prague connected with the Czech Embassy in Singapore. Dozens more similar events were held.

"The world is changing, and the role of diplomacy is becoming more important. That is why we at the Foreign Ministry came up with Diplomacy Week. We are delighted that the first edition has been joined by many diplomats, diplomats, schools, embassies and individuals who share the view that diplomacy deserves much more attention," said Karel Smékal, Director of the Communications Department.

Diplomacy Week follows the regular visits of diplomats to schools and public discussions organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout the year.
