Chido Obi ruled out vs Forest due to FA Youth Cup but Ruben Amorim calls up 18-year-old teammate

Manchester United are set for a crucial couple of days for all levels of the club as the Premier League campaign resumes immediately after the FA Youth Cup.

As Ruben Amorim has started calling up youngsters to the first-team picture in recent weeks, there were decisions to be made.

The FA Youth Cup is the most prestigious academy tournament in the country and United last won it in 2022 with the batch headlined by Alejandro Garnacho.

It appears United are going full-tilt ahead to repeat that achievement as they’ve sent Chido Obi to do the job but struck a balance to call up his teammate instead.

Man Utd make send Chido Obi to U18s

It is a measure of how seriously the FA Youth Cup is taken at Old Trafford that Chido Obi is being sent back for the semifinal despite showing he’s more than ready to hang with senior football.

His presence will be a huge boost to the squad as he’s already hit a ridiculous seven goals in three rounds of the cup.

The Daily Mail has reported that Obi will feature in the semifinal against Aston Villa U18s, with the potential for a mouth-watering Manchester Derby clash in the final.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed injury returnees for Forest so the manager clearly feels Obi will be better served by playing a big occasion for the academy instead of a fringe role with the senior team.

Rasmus Hojlund comes back full of confidence from the break while Mason Mount’s return should increase Amorim’s options up front.

The same can’t be said for the defence, as seen in Harry Amass being ruled out of the FA Youth Cup game.

Harry Amass called up to senior team

Amass has played every Youth Cup game so far but he won’t be a part of the semifinal squad as he’s been called up to make numbers in the senior setup.

Patrick Dorgu will return from suspension so Amass won’t start but Luke Shaw’s continued absence makes it pertinent for Amorim to have a left wing-back option.

Amass fared well on senior debut vs Leicester so he’s clearly earned enough trust to be given another first-team call-up when United are short on numbers on the left.

Amass will hope for some minutes against Forest while his teammates carry the team through to the final, where he can hopefully lift the famous trophy.
