Aaron Rodgers drops the biggest hint yet that he is Steelers-bound

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be getting close to landing Aaron Rodgers in free agency, and this recent report is a huge indication of that. The Steelers have gotten cute with the QB situation in recent years, and their recent experiment was Russell Wilson and Justin Fields in the 2024 NFL Season.

Many of us saw just how bad that QB room was going to be, and it ended up being just that. Well, the Steelers seem to still be holding out hope that Aaron Rodgers will sign with them in free agency, and a bit of a bombshell report dropped recently from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network:

Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf, the Steelers newly-acquired wide receiver, had a throwing session together over the weekend at UCLA. Folks, isn't this a major update? The Steelers sent a second-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks to land Metcalf in a trade, and they proceeded to extend the player, which did throw a ton of doubt into the future of George Pickens.

DK Metcalf is a very good player who just turned 27 years old. He's got three 1,000-yard seasons in his six years in the NFL and has never finished an NFL season with fewer than 900 yards and five touchdowns. He's got a high floor at the position, but some did say that Pittsburgh put the cart before the horse in regards to this move.

They traded for a stud WR without a viable quarterback to throw him the ball. It does seem like they have put most, if not all of their chips in on Aaron Rodgers, who was not terrible in 2024 with the New York Jets. Rodgers turns 42 years old near the end of the 2025 NFL Season but did throw for 28 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions for the Jets.

The Jets were also quite dysfunctional in 2024, so there could be a path for Rodgers to be solidly efficient with the much more buttoned-up Steelers. Furthermore, if the four-time NFL MVP wants to continue playing, he might not have another suitor left. The Steelers might be his only clear-cut chance to start at this stage of his career.

Aaron Rodgers could absolutely elect to retire, but this throwing session with DK Metcalf is not nothing and could be a huge indication that he is close to deciding to sign with the Steelers. His final decision could be quite near.
