Arsenal reportedly ramp up interest in Man Utd-linked striker, Ruben Amorim could face pain for years to come

Manchester United are likely to move for new striker this summer, but Ruben Amorim may see Arsenal pounce for one of his former stars.

The end of the season is now in sight, and Manchester United fans will be keen to see plenty of business in the summer transfer window.

United face Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals next week and could still end the season with a trophy.

The transfer window is just around the corner now, though, and United have plenty of work to do in order to advance under Ruben Amorim.

Another striker is wanted, and United continue to be linked with Hugo Ekitike, with the Frenchman shining for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lorenzo Lucca has been linked with United as well, but one name connected to Amorim could be heading elsewhere in England.

Arsenal very keen on Manchester United-linked Viktor Gyokeres

United aren’t exactly the only club chasing a new striker this summer.

Premier League rivals will also be in the market for goal-scoring additions, meaning United will face competition for any top striker.

Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily mentioned in United circles ever since Amorim’s arrival back in November.

The Swede became a goalscoring machine under Amorim at Sporting, taking his game to another level after his time at Coventry City.

Amorim wanted Gyokeres at United, but The Athletic report that Arsenal are now developing a ‘strong interest’ in signing Gyokeres.

Arsenal’s new sporting director Andrea Berta is understood to be a huge fan of Gyokeres and could launch a summer move.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are on the Arsenal radar too, but Gyokeres could become the priority.

Sesko isalso on United’s wish list, and Arsenal’s move for Gyokeres may just bring the Slovenian into play for Amorim.

Seeing Gyokeres join a Premier League rival would no doubt leave Amorim a little gutted, and also leave the United boss to prepare for games against him for years to come.

That may be a situation of United’s own making, though, with Amorim’s admiration for Gyokeres seemingly not shared throughout the club.

United may not rival Arsenal for Gyokeres

Reports earlier in 2025 suggested that United are against signing Gyokeres due to his age.

That may sound crazy, given that Gyokeres is only 26 and doesn’t turn 27 until June.

United’s stance may well be that Gyokeres will need time to adjust from Portuguese football to the Premier League.

That could take a season or two, at which point Gyokeres would be heading towards his 30’s.

United may believe that a younger option will prove to be better value for money, especially with a long-term approach being taken under Amorim.

Reports in Portugal suggest that Gyokeres isn’t keen on a move to United anyway, believing that he needs to join a club in the Champions League.

A move to United seemingly won’t be happening this summer, but the prospect of Amorim coming up against Gyokeres in the near future is growing stronger.
